Croatia to host Iranian short ‘The Eleventh Step’

The 10th Supertoon Int’l Animation Festival in Croatia is to present Iranian ‘The Eleventh Step’.

The 10th edition of the Supertoon International Animation Festival in Croatia has scheduled to present Iranian short ‘The Eleventh Step’.

Directed by Maryam Kashkoulinia, the short title will vie at the Planktoon – Animated Films for Children Competition of the Croatian event.

“A little lion cub, born in a zoo, lives in a cage that is only ten steps long. On the eleventh step, he bangs his head against the bars, but one day the zookeeper leaves the cage door open; however, the lion cub never dares to take one more step toward its freedom,” reads a plot summary to the short film.

The 11-minute animation has been made based on the story of Iranian children’s author Susan Taqdis with the same title.

It is currently in competition at the 2020 Annecy International Animated Film Festival in France.

The Supertoon International Animation Festival is a specialized event in short animated films and takes place every summer in Sibenik, turning the entire city into a bona fide open-air theater.

About 200 of the freshest, most interesting short animated films from around the world will be screened at Mala Loza and Gorica open-air cinemas on July 20-24, 2020 with all the necessary precautions regarding the COVID-19 pandemic and public gatherings.
